Grammar for business

Why should I bother with grammar? Nothing exposes our writing like bad grammar. Typos and spelling mistakes we forgive, but bad grammar brings out the the intolerance of the reader. Getting this right is critical to the success of our writing.

Being professional

Readers are sensitive and demanding, they require well-written text to stay interested and involved. Knowing the rules of grammar is not just academic. Knowing your writing is grammatically sound builds confidence. It is the bedrock of writing persuasively. The good news is that we know enough grammar to get by. But by being aware of our weaknesses we can forestall the phrases and clunky expressions that put off our readers. Our work becomes what our reader expects: professional.

Grammar is a piano I play by ear.  All I know about grammar is its power.  Joan Didion
